On the Cusp

Here we are, on the cusp of December, with Advent just under way and NaNoWriMo concluding. I’m pretty sure these three events have nothing in common except their timing, but each of them gives me reason to rejoice.

December,

not quite winter, no longer autumn – brings the chickadees and varied thrush rushing to chow down at our freshly filled bird feeders (surely the bears have gone to bed by now).

Advent,
time of preparation and anticipation — four weeks in which to align our hearts with heaven’s promise and prepare ourselves and our homes for the coming Gift.

NaNoWriMo,
concluding “thirty days and nights of literary abandon” — ready now to ease out of a crazy race of words against calendar and wonder about the potential of the emerging novel.

Then again, maybe they do have something in common. Potential.

What do you think?

  1. I’m not sure. I know I’m anxious to accomplish something, or maybe finish something important. It may be my way of saying goodbye to the old and hello to the new.

I don’t always embrace winter. Honestly, I haven’t for too many years. This year I’m trying to change that.

I’ve been celebrating Advent for some time. Longer than required, but necessary nonetheless.

    1. Every new month seems to start off with a glimpse of potential that’s hard to identify. Is it the ‘new start’ thing? December’s approach to winter, Christmas and a brand new year always brings a sense of urgency to me — like time is slipping away and I’d better make good use of these rapidly disappearing days. That’s probably not a bad thing. 😉

  2. I’ve never heard of Advent. Did you mean Advil?

I moved away from winter. Right now – need some rest. Can’t remember ever being this exhausted. Lots still on the plate for the next several weeks. UGH!!!

Congrats on the NaNo achievement. Seriously awesome.

  3. I’m afraid I don’t see the potential in December. Even though I love the Christmas season, I dread the start of winter.

Congratulations on reaching your NaNo goal. Sounds like there’s lots of potential there.

    1. Winter can certainly be long, cold and dismal, depending on where you live but I rather like its period of dormancy. It’s a time for me to catch up on inside projects, make plans for next season’s garden plantings, and do a bit more visiting than there might otherwise be time for in the other seasons. Fortunately I don’t have to commute much on wintry roads.
