I’m on a blogging hiatus this week, but have scheduled a couple posts from the archives that I hope you won’t mind seeing again…
~
Autumn doesn’t arrive suddenly, despite what the calendar may have suggested recently. It slips in silently, bringing a crisp and misty edge to summer mornings. There’s a gentling of the late afternoon’s sunshine. Gardens sport blowzy seed pods and the alders discreetly begin discarding leaves faded to familiar autumn hues.

While I could do without the presence of those garden spiders hanging out in their silken orbs, they are harbingers of the approaching season of preparation — reminders that it’s time for us to begin collecting the harvest and setting aside quantities for our winter sustenance.
Overgrown shrubs beg for pruning and tender perennials await their annual blanket of mulch, but it’s not a task for today. This is also a season of reward, and right now I think I’m entitled to sit awhile on the deck and do nothing but take in the view.

“There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot….”
(Ecclesiastes 3:1-2)

It really is a beautiful time of year if a person just takes a moment to notice. Thanks, Carol, for sharing such a spectacular photo.
I absolutely love fall, and that verse from Ecclesiastes. Enjoy your hiatus,
