This is it! On Canada’s west coast NaNoWriMo 2010 is now underway and I’m settling in for thirty days of… what? Sore butt, aching back, callused fingertips and strained eyes. Yeah, I know it doesn’t sound like much fun, but I’m stoked to thrash my way through the first very rough draft of the novel that’s been playing in my head like a theatre marquee.
I’ll continue to blog regularly but I think I can safely say you can expect much shorter posts during November. In lieu of my wordiness maybe you’ll take time to tell me what’s on your mind.
But first, while I’m writing myself blind I’d like to think you’re writing, too, and I’m curious about something. What’s the logline of your current w.i.p.? Let’s hear it… no more than two sentences. 🙂
MUSINGS 
I am cheering you on, Carol. Maybe next year I’ll be so blessed by blogging that NaNoWriMo won’t boggle my mind. By then I’ll have sent a query for my first novel into cyberspace to find its way, divinely guided, into the hands of the right publisher. Here is my novel in a capsule.
Eight-year-old David is kidnapped by two small-time criminals. While the sheriff and his staff strive to find the boy, and his family members agonize not knowing if they will ever see their beloved child again, David escapes and reports his three-day struggle to two new friends, and introduces them to Buddy, the great white dog David believes God sent to him when he prayed.
Ha! I just found out that logline isn’t what I thought it was. I am not participating in NaNoWriMo. Blessings…
Carol Ann, that was a perfectly acceptable logline. (The Scriptologist suggests, “A logline is a one-sentence summary of your script. It’s the short blurb in TV guides that tells you what a movie is about and helps you decide if you’re interested in seeing it. It’s the grabber that excites your interest.” We also apply that to our novels and, as Jill mentions, it’s also called a tagline. My question wasn’t limited to NaNo writing, so I’m glad to read what your novel is about.

Shari, I like that “NaNoWhatevMo” term! Suits what I’m doing. You and Carol Ann are the only ones so far to be brave enough to share your loglines. Sounds like Simone has a big dilemma! 😉
You heard the theme which is also sort of the logline for the novel I’m ready to query: “Who you are is more important than who you think you are.” I need to work more on that. It doesn’t say enough.
My NaNo novel logline: “SHOWDOWN is about the competitive world of the professional dog fancy where breeding, training and exhibiting purebred dogs are not only exciting pursuits, they’re also addictive enough to lead to murder.”
Ooh, Mom, that’s a compelling logline for SHOWDOWN!! Happy NaNo-ing!
