We knew it would come. The first gold medal to be won by a Canadian Olympian in Canada – Alexandre Bilodeau won the men’s moguls today! That was so exciting!
But what brought tears to my eyes was the reaction of Alexandre’s older brother, Frederic, who has cerebral palsy. Alexandre says Frederic has always inspired him.
Sometimes success in any arena takes more than determination. It takes passion fired by a special source of inspiration.
What is it that inspires you… what builds your passion for writing?
Pretty exciting! Isn’t it? Alexandre’s story is a really great one. Truly inspirational! It’s especially nice when great things happen to people like him.
I think that’s going to be THE story of this year’s Olympics. When he won – Deb was ecstatic… & cryin’, but… you know… she’s a girl, gets all emotional ’bout things like that. (I was cryin’ thinkin’ about how my back would feel goin’ down that hill & doin’ those flips. Been achin’ ever since!)
Seriously awesome.
Yay!!! Thrilling, absolutely! You go, Alex!
Good question. I still can’t figure it out. I’m inspired by the make-believe world living in my head. The more the characters come to life, the more excited I get. But it still doesn’t make sense.
It really is exciting! I’m captivated by the energy, determination and achievements of all the athletes, not just the Canadians, but of course I’m especially rooting for our own competitors.
Joylene, it’s fascinating to me how make-believe develops into reality during a story’s progress. The brain is a remarkable thing! How our minds create words that link together and end up forming images and characters that we relate to and care about never ceases to amaze me.
So awesome!
I missed that moment, but I’m so happy for him and for Canada. I love watching athletes from all over the world and hearing their stories.
Me, too! It’s neat seeing how their love of a sport brought them so far.
I got to see that at a friend’s house, and it was pretty freakin’ cool. I’m inspired by the thought of a stranger reading my book and liking it, when he/she is under no obligation to do so.
Knowing strangers will read mine feels more intimidating than inspiring to me, but it certainly does prod me to keep improving the story to make it the best it can be.
Agreed – for the frenchman to not get podium looked pretty bad – thought he was a bit better overall than the American, actually….
The judging of all the fine points is beyond me in most sports. I just marvel at the performance and applaud the wins.
That’s a beautiful story, Carol. I think what draws us in is the emotion. And that is what fuels my passion for writing too!
I hadn’t thought of emotion as fueling passion but of course it does. All the material motivations would fall flat without emotion so that’s a great observation, Jody.
I was rooting for you all…and not only 1 Gold, but 2! Good for Canada and it’s wonderful hosting of the Olympics.
Plus, I am totally rooting for Team Canada Hockey as well as Team USA.
You mean you haven’t been saving all your energy to root for your American athletes? That’s very sweet. But when our hockey teams meet face to face I bet we’ll be on opposite sides of the arena. 😉
